Child and Family Mental Health

Social Inclusion of Children and Youth

Dr Fabian Davis and Professor Lynn McDonald (Middlesex University, Director of Families and Services Together) co-hosted an event on February 11, 2010 to launch a national initiative on the Social Inclusion of Children and Youth. This event was supported by the British Psychological Society.

Participants (voices from health, education, therapists, and social workers, parent and youth service users, as well as representatives of diverse backgrounds across social class, race, and immigration status), came together to discuss and strategize collaborative, interagency, multi-disciplinary efforts across the social ecology, which could be moved forward to increase the  psychological, physical and social wellbeing of children and youth in the UK.

A paper detailing the presentations, discussions and future plans for this initiative will be poduced soon, and will be linked here.

Think Family

Families with parents who have mental health problems often have complex needs. Attempts to meet those needs can be hampered by organisational structures which make it more difficult to provide services which are accessible and useful to the whole family.

To help address this, SCIE has produced a comprehensive, evidence-based guide to working with parents with mental health problems and their children. Think Child, Think Parent, Think Family and an ‘At a glance’ summary of the guide gives clear practice guidance, examples of existing effective working and recommendations for improving the experiences and outcomes for families.
